Loopy Pro, I can‘t for the life of me find a workflow conveniently recording in Aum

hello all, thanks for reading

i want to record loops from aum channels. one by one. i would like to use some ‚remote record button‘ and not go all the way in loopy hd for recording. i have been trying to setup loopy pro as effect and as main channel in Aum. i had to get out audiobus 3 after long time and made the connections. now the audiobus screen pops up regularly but what am i to do with it? after connections made i. dont want to use a midi controller at this point.
we used to be able to do this right? like with the ‚sidepanel‘ ? But the appGroup the Loop would give me a record button in Aum too. i v been hoping to see that for Loopy Pro.
What am i doing wrong? I have the audiobus setting up correct i believe: as in the example from another post about loopy hd in Aum.
I had not thought the first week with loopy pro would be so difficult. workflow is not existing for now. i hope its a simple thing i am overseeing.

a solution would be highly appreciated
thank you all

p.s. when loop length is set to unset, i thought it to be manual, butit stops recording after 1 bar. is there also manual way?

I cant find a way to correct some typo‘s in an edit for now. sorry, new here

    ah found it :)

  • this is how its not working now

normally the first channel is routed to send M masterbus.
i tried using a send with loopy as effect too.

The Audiobus workflow you mention doesn't apply to Loopy Pro standalone or Loopy running as an AU in AUM. You will need to either use Loopy's u.i. or set up midi triggers and a midi controller. The AB floating palette won't apply.

You mentioned loops stopping after one loop. Turn off Auto Count Out in the clip settings if you don't want loop recording to stop automatically. There is a video about setting up Loopy in AUM in the Loopy Pro article

Hi, @cosmoproletan. This simple set up works perfectly (see pic). You just need to get audio into LP. Use a bus to send audio to the channel where you have loaded LP into the effects slot. Using a bus will allow you to send audio from as many AUM channels as you like. Then just work inside the LP AU to record your loops. No need for anything else. (I added Atom 2 just to get something playing on the instrument, which I then recorded in LP to test the setup.) You can always just record loops in AUM as you normally would and then import them into the standalone version of LP as well, which I kind of prefer. I use AUM extensively to audition instruments and for sound design, but LP is already a much better composition tool!

    and novelty

i do know how to setup a bus. i know how to get audio in loop pro.
but i never had to go all the way in an looping app before just to press and stop recording. not with loopy hd and not with Group the Loop.

i have been searching for documentation, thanks for the link..
That video is the one I mentioned, and does not apply to my way of working.
and there is a lot of painfully sliding one app over the other there. i cant do that every time i want to tweak a few effect parameters, while recording a loop, which is all the time, in real time, while performing /recording.
thanks for the tip on how to disable auto loop record ending.

for now my loopy pro dreams are shattered. sounds as dramatic as it is.

…as a possible potential workaround, i just tried recording a 10 bar loop, with the idea to later shorten this to the last 8 bars. gives me 2 bars of time to find my tweak parameter in another node.
So i did. in the recorded loop i wanted to now shorten this to 8 bars with the slider. easy peacy? not at all because the slider is not quantized to bars, but to the tiniest divisions! it seemed impossible to do. let alone quickly. i checked settings.
i think most of us needs this to be quantized to bars, or??
i want my loopy hd back it al just worked;( i thought to continue where we v left but now super powered. a week of hope and dead ends, every single session. as dramatical is it sounds. i had /have out all my bets on this app

  • Perhaps you are missing that you can do all of the effects tweaking you want in the standalone LP? I suspect you can add just as many effects as in AUM, if not more (because LP has an idle mode for plugins - seems to me it uses CPU/DSP very efficiently). You can set up widgets in LP to trigger your effects, open/close them etc., and in LP you can have multiple screens too. I don't fully understand the set up you envisioned for inside AUM, but I would encourage you to rethink your workflow rather than abandon it.

thanks for your input Novelty. But i need a quick way to commit sounds created in Aum. Is there a possibility that pressing record via the floating pallete, or the Group the Loop way of having a dedicated record button showing up in AUM option is still coming? Or is this only possible with IAA? (that would be ironically sad). i would think something like this is essential for a loop app...

  • May I suggest, if you haven't already, that you email Michael or head over to the Discord site and add your feature requests there. i'm optimisitic there is a LOT more to come.

yeah i was not completely sure which from the 3 fora to use, the loopy pro official website does not link to documentation nor to any forum. So I tried and signed up here. even when I do have an audiob.us account allready,
I am pretty sure Michael reads this one too though.

one more question i got from my last session : slowing down audio as tape or vinyl would do was promised ( meaning with pitch changes) I cant seem to find the option for it.
    is it already possible?
    thank you!

Would it help to use Turnado plugin in the meantime? :)

not the least bit helpfull, for obvious reasons

anyway, good that this forum exists ...

  • @novelty The setup you discribe works very easy. Importing (longer) loops via AUM works fine for apps like Jazz Drummer and Soft Drummer, iFredless Bass and iBassist.
Also very good to connect your Audio Interface (in my case connected to Nord 5 Piano). Top!!!

great that people are happy about random ways of working with their idevices. In this case @Martin344
it's not relevant to the threat, Loopy pro nor to live looping (importing, really? are we in ipad 1 times?). I own more compatible audio interfaces then sensible, and the same counts for midi controllers. Remember that iOS is a mobile device platform though. Hence my original question, Still a very helpful tip though, to connect our audio interfaces (?)

  • Just out of curiosity, why use AUM for the hosting and not just do it in LP?

  • Didn't get these drum apps into in LP, so I came to the idea to do it via AUM. But maybe I didn't search well enough how to get it done in LP.

    yes lovely thank you
how sillly of me to create in AUM

all I need is that IAA function now,
    a handy remote button
    loopy hd i think
Group the Loop has an even better one.
    very elegant solution

p.s. switching effects and routings on and off in AUM is very convenient.
and let's not forget midi phrases
