FAQ: What is the loop length limit?

edited August 2012 in FAQ
I can't find the answer before I purchase. What is the available length of a loop? 60 seconds? Unlimited? (only by memory)

  • Hey! The length is limited only by memory, but given that you're asking, I'd strongly suggest making sure a looper is what you're after: Loopers like Loopy are designed to work with loops that represent small (as in, a few bars) repeating parts of a song. If you're wanting loop lengths that might push the limits of a looper, then you probably don't want a looper - you want a multitrack editor or something.

Check out some of the videos at http://loopyapp.com/featured-artists/ to see the kind of things you could expect from Loopy.

    Cheers!

  • The worst part of all the more kaoss products is their short loop length. There are times when 64 bars are needed. I'm glad loopy can deliver in those rare instances!

EDIT: Spam is gone... now this comment doesn't make sense.. :-)

    Hi Michael & Loopy folk,

Looking to reduce the technology I use to the simplest most portable minimum and Loopy on an iPad could well be the way ahead.

I have a question that relates to this thread and your response Michael (quoted above).

Ideally I'd like a device that allows me to

    a) generate a number of shortish rhythmical loops (2, 4 or 8 bar) that run in sync (i.e. rhythmically locked to one another).

    and

    b) also generate and run a number of loops that are not tied to a tempo and are potentially quite long (maybe up to a minute).

This combination of groovy elements and free time elements is how I work musically, so a looper that only handles short loops that are rhythmically synced isn't adequate.

Can Loopy do both a) & b) simultaneously?

    Thanks,

    William

  • Hi William, this is a very old discussion thread. Current news is that Loopy 3 will be released before long, and includes a complete overhaul. (Also known as Loopy Masterpiece Edition)

Rumor has it that in version 3 the loops will be highly customizable and you should be able to build exactly what you are describing.

  • Hi Hmtx, yes I'm aware it's old. Thanks for the rumour update, should I take it as confirmation that I can't do what I want to with the current version?

    Thanks

  • the workaround now is to set up Loopy (iphone version) as a free looper with no sync. I think it is still in the iPhone app store. Then use Loopy HD as the synced looper.

The downside is that one of the apps will always be in the background, so you would have to set up all the commands to be MIDI controlled.

  • that's clear, many thanks.
