Projects lost after latest update

edited April 2022 in Loopy Pro Beta

@Michael , sadly after installing the latest update when I opened Loopy it crashed and then when opening again, my projects were gone :/
I had backups for some, but ugh.

This was on an ipad pro 12,9 M1, latest ios. Didn't happen on other ipads, I have multiple

  • Whoa! That’s dramatic - I can’t imagine any scenario that could result in lost data! So the project files actually disappeared?! Do they appear in the Files app, in the LP folder?

I’d also love to see that crash log, if you could send it to me: https://loopypro.com/manual/#reporting-crashes

Sure, I'll dig up the crash log :)

Yeah the files disappeared from the LP folder! All that was in there was the workspace crashed file from after opening LP. I had to copy my backup back into the folder.

  • @Michael But weirdly, I can't find a crash log from today in the data :/

Huh! That’s extremely strange, I have absolutely no theories… it shouldn’t be possible at all, and there’s absolutely no code within LP which would cause your projects to be deleted, so this must be a weird iOS thing. Maybe do a sysdiagnose? https://loopypro.com/manual/#sysdiagnose

Alright, just mailed it to you :)

  • Thanks heaps! I’ll investigate that tomorrow.

  • Thanks for this! Yikes. Beyond my pay grade, though. I can't make heads or tails of any of this. I can see that there are no Loopy Pro crashes reported, so that's interesting. I think an Apple engineer may be able to figure out what happened, but I'm afraid I just don't have the internal knowledge to figure this one out.

As far as my own codebase goes, there's nothing in there that would explain anything as destructive as your projects being deleted, so I'm just mystified.

Probably a bad installation of the update or something. At least I didn't lose my most important stuff. I do frequent backups. Now even more frequent. I'll let ya know if I see more weird shit

  • Yeah, maybe – whatever it is, it seems an extraordinary thing to have happened, but who knows. At some point soon I’ll add iCloud support so everything will be backed up to the cloud too
