I think that the CoreMIDI functionality built into iOS can make that happen, but I haven't tried it. Here's an article that might help: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-use-coremidi-for-music-production-on-an-ipad-or-iphone-ios/
Barring that, iConnectivity makes interfaces that can connect multiple laptops/iPads via midi. The iConnectMidi4+ would certainly do the job (http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI4plus) and maybe the iConnectMidi2+ might work as well (http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI2plus). These aren't wireless, but I would be nervous using wireless in a live situation since you can't control or predict the RF interference you might encounter.
If one of you was only using midi (likely the drummer) while the other was handling all of the audio processing, there's this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apollo-midi-over-bluetooth/id720942905?mt=8
Or maybe this could be used to midi sync loopy on both devices? Although I've heard that midi sync isn't all that reliable on iOS yet.
Aww thanks guys xx your efforts in responding are greatly appreciated
Apollo is free this weekend so it's worth giving it a try to see if it solves your request. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/apollo-midi-over-bluetooth/id720942905?mt=8
